Teriyaki Boy @ SM Gensan

Teriyaki Boy is one of our favorite restaurants in Davao, so when it opened one of its newest branch at SM General Santos, our family of three had to troop over for a meal. The restaurant serves Japanese cuisine at fairly reasonable prices. Their signature lemon yellow furnishings is a breath of fresh air from the usual reds or darkwood designs of traditional Japanese restaurants.

They have a lot of delectable Japanese dishes in their menu that is worth tasting. But of course, we have our favorites. For the appetizer, try their Gyoza - a Japanese pork dumpling steamed and seared so you can taste a hint of crispness coupled with their tangy soy based dipping sauce.

For their Maki Rolls, of course we just had to order the California Roll. A maki consisting of crabstick roll with fresh mango coated with fresh shrimp roe. I can't really say anything sensational about the maki rolls but it still one of my favorite appetizers to order in a Japanese restaurant. It will take you back for a measly P139. Oh, and try the Crazy California Roll too! It will give you a twist of the classic California roll.. I won't tell you more about it just order their Crazy rolls. :) The Crazy California Rolls is a bit higher in price at P191 compared to the traditional maki roll.

For solo meals or a complete order of their bestsellers with the right amount of Japanese rice, try their Donburi. They have a choice of I think seven meals under this menu. For our lunch, I ordered the Teriyaki Boy Chicken Ju, one of their bestsellers in this category. The grilled chicken is served with a sweet-tangy teriyaki sauce placed on top of yummy steamed Japanese rice. This sumptous meal is served in a sort of jewelry box called the "Ju" so I guess that's where they coined the name of the dish.. chicken in a box --quite literally. :) This dish costs P214 per solo order.

Hubby ordered the Sukiyaki Beef Teppanyaki Don. A meal consisting of beef bacon slices stir-fried with teppanyaki sauce and onion slices, topped with raw egg and placed on top of steamed Japanese rice. I wouldn't recommend this dish to those conscious of their cholesterol level since the beef bacon in itself is really fatty. But, this dish is a mouthwatering meal nonetheless, and I wouldn't hesitate to order again in the near future. :) Be prepared to shell out a measly P191 for this fare.

Teriyaki Boy has a number of branches nationwide. You can check out their menu at their website here.
